Sermon Notes

Read Psalm 51

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and restores the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

Grace: God’s riches at Christ’s expense. All we need now, to live the abundant life.

Brokenness: The condition of being crushed by inward or outward circumstances and having nowhere to turn but to God.

When grace hits our brokenness there is restoration! But we have to…

1. Go to the Restorer. vv. 1, 2

  • He is loving and compassionate.

  • He is the only one who is able.

2. Be honest with the Restorer. vv. 3-6

  • About yourself.

  • About Him.

3. Receive from the Restorer. vv. 7-12

  • Cleansing, joy, gladness, forgiveness, a right heart, fellowship, assurance, and confidence.

4. Live for the Restorer. vv. 13-17

  • Modeling His ways.

  • Sacrificing for Him.

GOING DEEPER
  1. Remember a time when you were crushed by inward or outward circumstances and had nowhere to turn but to God.

  2. Read Jeremiah 10:17-22. Look at verse 19, the word injury, why was Jeremiah injured?

  3. There are some things in our lives that need to be broken: for example, pride, self-will, stubbornness, and sinful habits. Read Isaiah 57:15, how does God deal with us?

  4. Read Psalm 147:3. What assurance do you get from this verse?

  5. Read Romans 8:28-30. What encouragement can we find for brokenness in these verses?

Read Matthew 12:1-13 "When God balances the scales morally, it is not some standard outside Himself He looks at and then determines whether this is right or wrong. But rather it's His very nature, it is His very character and nature that is the standard by which He judges." ~Josh McDowell

True Justice is rooted in the character of God.

Injustice is rooted in sin.

When grace hits injustice, there is restoration.

  1. Restoration through Christ's truth.

  2. Restoration through God's plan.

  3. Restoration through radical generosity.

  4. Restoration through biblical equality.

  5. Restoration through life-changing advocacy.
