Abba, Father

Read Mark 14:36; Romans 8:12-15; Galatians 4:4-7

“Dads are ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers and singers of silly songs.” ~Pam Brown

Abba: An Aramaic term which expresses deep affection, confidence, and trust. It signifies the close, intimate relationship of a father and his child, as well as the childlike trust that a young child puts in his “daddy.”

Our Abba Father is the best father because….

1. He is always there. (Mark14:36)

  • And is there for all things.

  • And can do all things.

  • And knows all things.

2. He is always showing it. (Romans 8:12-15)

  • By His leading.

  • By His grace.

  • By His assurance.

3. He is always faithful. (Galatians 4:4-7)

  • A Father of his word.

  • A Father of hope.

GOING DEEPER
  1. What feeling or emotions does the term God the Father bring to your mind? Why?

  2. How does or did your earthly father compare to God our Father?

  3. Read John 1:10-13. According to these verses how does someone become a child of God.

  4. Read 1John 2:28-3:3. What further insight can we gain about God the Father from these verses?

  5. Write down all the attributes you can think of that show God to be a great Father…then thank him for each one!
