Sermon Notes

Read Hebrews 6:1-12

"We yearn for shortcuts. But shortcuts usually lead us away from growth not toward it." ~Philip Yancey

Because Jesus is greater……

  1. We must keep growing up in Him. (Hebrews 6:1-3)

  2. We must be careful not to fall away from Him. (Hebrews 6:4-8)

  3. We can persevere to the end. (Hebrews 6:9-12)

Going Deeper
  1. Remember a time when you questioned whether or not you were saved. What was your doubt and hoe did you resolve it?

  2. Read Ephesians 1:1-14. Write down all the things these verses say we are in Christ. Now note whether they are past, present, or future. Why might this be significant?

  3. Note verses 13 and 14. What do they say about the security of our salvation?

  4. Read John 5:24 and John 10:28. What further insight do we gain from these verses?

  5. Do you know that your salvation is absolutely secure in the completed work of Jesus Christ? It is based and secure in what He did for you and not what you do for Him. Thank him for that right now and tell as many people as possible about His amazing grace!

Read Hebrews 5:11-14

“It seems we want to get better at everything else in our life except the most important thing… being like Christ” ~Asil Treblig

Because Jesus is greater, we should be growing in Him, so……

1. Let’s be eager to learn.

  • There is so much to gain.

  • Growing up is a choice.

2. Let’s be quick to teach.

  • The world needs it.

  • We pour out – God pours in.

3. Let’s be craving to chew.

  • Milk is for infants.

  • Solid food helps us grow up.

Going Deeper
  1. Remember a time when you tried to learn or grow at something and you couldn’t. How did you feel?

  2. Read Luke 8:1-15. Explain the three seeds that the farmer sowed.

  3. Which seed are you and how do you know? What does a good crop mean in verse 15?

  4. Read verses 16-18. Why are these verses mentioned next after the parable?

  5. In what ways should you be growing more and what are you going to do about it?
